de KOONING NECKLACE

$ 420.00

Antique fine silver and copal beads (from Nepal, but probably Tibetan in origin), carnelian, smoky topaz, and the famous fair trade Kazuri beads from Kenya. Pendant includes turquoise, copal and coral. Those vintage Swarovski bicones are the fabled comet d'or, 24 carat over glass; the yellow sequins with just a hint of iridescence are old, old, old. There are Chocolate Kazuri Earrings to match.

Reminds us of de Kooning, a favorite modern artist.

The handmade, mirror-like Kazuri beads come from one of the earliest fair trade women's collectives in Africa. We can vouch for the genuineness of their fair labor standards and commitment to improving workers' lives because we stumbled upon the factory by accident in 1979. At the time it was a fledgling organization, and we were thrilled to buy some of these beautiful beads. We are so pleased at the global success these artists have achieved since then.
