Why the name? Red and yellow are the colors seen everywhere in Nepal, and the icy tones of the blue lace agate remind us of nothing so much as the Himalaya.
This necklace is full of treasures upcycled into wearable modern art: antique Thai hill silver squares (finer than sterling); vintage Swarovski hyacinth nailhead, blue opal, and light comet d'argent bicones; vintage French beads (fire-engine red rectangles from the 1920s); antique (c. 1700) Venetians (yellow with red trailings);lace agate; and baroque freshwater pearls; Bali silver S clasp. The antique red and yellow Venetian beads still have a modern feel. Maybe that is why we see something of the artist, Gerhard Richter, in both in coloration and abstraction. 21" long plus 2" pendant.
Reminder: Thai silver is a higher grade than sterling, taking on an extraordinary patina with age. Its softness allows for some of the finest engraved designs--all done by hand, naturally.
